This collection contains all the chorales with and without obbligato instruments, exactly as they are found in the edition of the Bachgesellschaft. We have only excluded the figural chorales and those containing larger instrumental interludes. The only figural chorale in the collection, No. 199, "Weg, weg mit allen Schiitzen", was included because it belongs together with the other chorales based on the motet "Jesu meine Freude". Similarly, No. 259, "Nun danket aile Gott", was included despite its short interludes because of its great versatility.
