Lester Bangs died in 1982 at the age of 33. Psychotic Reactions and Carburettor Dung includes pieces on Barry White, Iggy Pop, The Clash, John Lennon, Lou Reed: "I always wanted to emulate the most self-destructive bastard I could see, as long as he moved with some sense of style." To his journalism he brought the talent of a great fiction writer. A role model in the film "Almost Famous", Lester Bangs appeals to successive generations of fans because writing about music was for his not just a 9 to 5 job, it was his life.
