Completed in 1806, the Fourth Symphony was conceived at the end of an astonishingly productive period in Beethoven's career. The same important span of time in wich he wrote the Fourth Piano Concerto, the "Appassionata" Sonata, and the three Razumovsky string quartets, it was a period of stylistic authority and perfection of the symphonic ideal.
