The works and influence of Francisco Tárrega represent a milestone in the development of guitar technique. Alone the practical value of these pieces for technique, as well as their rich display of all the tonal possibilities of the instrument, would be enough justification for a new sheet music edition. In addition to this, though touches of originality, the avoidance of excessive sentimentality and moderate us of chromaticism they are entitled to an eminent position in the category of late romantic 'salon music'.
