Along with Piano music, song is Reynaldo Hahn's (1874-1947) preferred genre: with his light Baritone voice, the young prodigy conquered Parisian salons by singing the works of his favourite composers (Gounod, Massenet, Fauré), not to mention his own compositions, which enchanted audiences. Though finely wrought, these songs have a naturalness which continues to please, as evidenced by the success of the first two volumes. For many, this third volume will be a revelation since it assembles, for the first time, songs that were published separately in magazines. It also includes the Love without wings cycle (1904, based on melancholy poems by Mary Robinson) and the series of songs performed by Yvonne Printemps in the film La Dame aux Camélias (1934), which were on everyone's lips at the time.
Contents: Aimons-nous, Une étoile, Dans l'été, Au pays musulman, Love without wings (Ah! Could I clasp thee in mine arms, The fallen oak, I know you love me not), Oh! For the wings of a dove!, Adieu, J'ai caché dans la rose en pleurs, Naguère, au temps des églantines, Chanson (Danse, petite sirene), Le Marchand de marrons, La Dame aux Camélias (Mon rêve était d'avoir, C'est à Paris !, Au fil de l'eau), Vocalise-Étude (Souvenir de Constantinople).
