Contemporary Eartraining. Level One

Contemporary Ear Training has been used by hundreds of students, from beginners to working professionals, at the world-famous Grove School of Music in Los Angeles. Now the acclaimed Eartraining courses written by Mark Harrison, a vital part of the Grove musicianship program, have finally been made available to the public.

Eartraining is a vital skill that enables you to hear ahead in your playing and writing, and to better understand and transcribe other music that you hear. This Level One course works on hearing melodies, rhythms, intervals, bass lines and simple chords, as well as reviewing basic music theory concepts.

CONTENIDO

Introduction: Summary of subject areas addressed in the book

1. Review of C, F & G major scales & key signatures. Review of SOLFEG and major scale resolutions. Melodic dictation with whole/half/quarter notes

2. Diatonic major 3rd and minor 6th intervals. Introduction of eight-note rhythms in dictation

3. Diatonic minor 3rd and major 6th intervals. Introduction of D major scale and resolutions. Diatonic triad recognition, beginning with I, IV & V

4. Diatonic triad harmonization of melody. Diatonic triad 2- and 3-chord progressions

5. Diatonic 4th and 5th intervals. Diatonic triads and progressions, add the VI minor. Bass line dictation with half & quarter notes

6. Diatonic major 2nd and minor 7th intervals. Introduction of dotted quarter-eight rhythms. Diatonic triads and progressions, add the III minor

7. Diatonic minor 2nd and major 7th intervals. Introduction of eight-note rhythmic anticipations. Diatonic triads and progressions, add the II minor. Bass line dictation, add eightn notes & anticipations

8. Review and further drill on all of the above areas
