The present arrangement of these 6 duets for two guitars was approved and slightly supplemented by the composer. Each duet is titled with a name: The first names of persons to whom Berio feels attached in friendship or admiration. The preparatory exercises for each piece are to acquaint the player with the musical material used, the fingering and the tasks in connection with the striking technique. The ties taken over from the violin parts serve as guideline for phrasing. (Eugenia Kanthou)
