Django Reinhardt, génial guitariste de jazz eut la chance et le temps, malgré ses accidents, son caractère fantasque et sa courte vie de se faire connaître et reconnaître d?un large public aussi bien que de ses pairs. Les deux CDs font entendre Django dans deux contextes particuliers. Dans le premier CD, il joue de la guitare amplifiée dans des enregistrements réalisés de 1946 à 1953 qui indiquent clairement l?évolution de son langage en fonction de l?époque et de l?instrument, de sa rencontre avec Duke Ellington jusqu?à ses ultimes disques en compagnie de jeunes musiciens français. Dans le second CD, Django est le soliste sans partage, en solo, en duo, en trio, ou accompagné par de grandes formations quasiment symphoniques? Deux aspects de son sidérant talent.

Django Reinhardt, a jazz guitarist of genius, earned the recognition of a wide public and all of his peers in only a short lifetime, despite his crippling accident and a highly capricious character. These two CDs allow us to hear Django in two quite particular contexts. CD1 has him playing an amplified guitar in recordings made between 1946 and 1953; they clearly show how his language was evolving over the period, taking advantage of the instrument?s development and also his meeting with Duke Ellington, right up until his last recordings with younger French musicians. CD2 shows Django the unique soloist, in recordings where he played duets & in formats from trios to almost-symphonic orchestras. Both are fascinating aspects of his astounding talent.
