One of the great, legendary figures of American popular music, Blind Lemon Jefferson (1893-1930) was the very first blues singer and guitarist to enjoy fame, allowing many blues soloists to follow his path into the recording-studios. He was also the founding figure of Texas blues, and became the definition of the genre. Yet thanks to his enormous record sales, Jefferson had considerable influence outside his native Texas, on bluesmen such as T-Bone Walker, many Country music pioneers, folk stars such as Bob Dylan and even Rock (the Jefferson Airplane group took its name from the old master.)
