Es bienvenida la aparición de este primer volumen de las obras para órgano del compositor Manuel Castillo, tanto por la excelente calidad de las mismas, como por la aportación que supone este legado a la producción organística del siglo XX en nuestro país.
Manuel Castillo, fue, en palabras Tomás Marco, 'el compositor español de su generación que con mayor asiduidad, y también con mayor calidad, se ha acercado al mundo del órgano'.
Su primera obra, la Suite para órgano está dedicada a Federico Sopeña y compuesta en 1956. Es en realidad una obra para armonio, sin pedal obligado y escrita en dos pentagramas. La edición y estreno de la versión organística estuvo a cargo de José Enrique Ayarra en 1980.
Elevación fue escrita en 1957. Con una manifiesta influencia francesa, fue también originalmente para armonio y adaptada por Manuel Castillo al gran órgano, pensando en el órgano catedralicio sevillano.
En 1960 escribe la Fantasía 'Hi accipient', serie de variaciones sobre una antífona gregoriana que, por su ropaje armónico y su riqueza imaginativa, constituye una obra de cierto interés.
Con la divulgación de estas obras tenemos la oportunidad de conocer, estudiar e interpretar unas obras del repertorio español del siglo XX, comparables por su técnica organística y su calidad artística con las mejores producciones de otras escuelas europeas. -

It is a pleasure to welcome the publication of this first volume of the organ works of the Manuel Castillo, both for their excellent quality and for the valuable contribution made by his legacy to the 20th century Spanish organ repertoire.
Manuel Castillo, was also -in the words of Tomás Marco- 'the Spanish composer of his generation who wrote the most works for the organ, and also the best ones'.
His first work for the organ, which he titled Suite para órgano (Suite for organ) was dedicated to Federico Sopeña, and composed in 1956. It is a piece for the harmonium, without obligatory pedal and written on two staves. José Enrique Ayarra transcribed and performed the score for grand organ in 1980.
Elevación was written in 1957. It is evident the French influence and it was also written for the harmonium and later transcribed for organd and inspired on the grand organ of the Cathedral of Seville.
In 1960 he wrote the Fantasía 'Hi accipient' consists of a series of variations-on a Gregorian antiphon of with a certain interest value in view of its harmonic arrangements and imaginative richness.
They will have the opportunity to get to know and study, play and feel proud of some works from the 20th century Spanish repertoire that are on a par -in consideration of their organ technique and artistic quality- with the best compositions from other European schools. -
